Pet Aromatherapy & Essential Oils

Aromatherapy uses aromatic compounds medicinally to improve the health and well being of the body, mind, and spirit. It improves both the physical and emotional health. Aromatherapy is counted both as an art and a science. But lately, aromatherapy has gained more recognition in the fields of science and medicine not only for people but for animals as well. The most popular compounds being used in aromatherapy are the essential oils. Essential oils are compounds extracted from plants. The oils obtain the plant's scents and aroma that is why it is called essential, as this is the essence of the plant’s life. These oils are used as a supportive treatment for various ailments in animals for both physical and emotional. These oils however are concentrated. It may harm the animal’s skin when directly used. For this reason, they must be diluted in a carrier substance like oil, lotion, or cream in order not to harm your pets. However, it must be kept in mind that pet aromatherapy is not a substitute for veterinary medical drugs. They are considered as alternative treatments unless so prescribed by your veterinary doctor.
